2009 Gilhooly Award Winner - St. Ambrose University

Saint Ambrose instills not only a strong education, but the responsibilities
to the community in their students. Saint Ambrose students have donated
time and talents to many local community events such as the St. Anthony’s
Holiday Food Basket Deliveries, the Student Hunger Drive, volunteering
at CASI, Domestic Violence Fundraisers, and many more events.

As Annie Moore led her shipmates down the gangplank to face  new challenges in America, St. Ambrose is known as a leader in this time and place. They have truly been instrumental in Comanaigh An  Duchas -- Passing it on.

Saint Ambrose University has passed on its support for culture to the Irish community near and far. Its energies and efforts to expand our Irish experience through venues such as practice space for the Mullane Irish Dancers and ceili dances, host site for Irish Heritage Days, a curriculum focused on Irish studies in America and Ireland, including guest lectures and celebration of the Feast of St. Brigid, and the recent placement of a beautiful Celtic Cross on campus, has had a positive influence in the preservation of all things Irish
