Grand Marshal, The Grand Parade XXXIV, 2019
         Kevin Fennelly

Kevin Fennelly of Moline is Grand Parade Marshal
for the St. Patrick Society Grand Parade on Saturday,
March 16, 2019. Kevin and his wife Rose are
the proud parents of 3 daughters: Michele, Lisa, &
Pam. A 50 year member of Sacred Heart Parish in
Moline, Kevin grew up in Davenport on E. Rusholme
Street with 8 sisters and 6 brothers – Kevin right
in the middle. He went to school at St. Paul the
Apostle Grade School and St. Ambrose Academy.
After service in the Army from 1953-55, he returned
to Davenport and St. Ambrose College where he
played basketball under Red McManus and Bob
Duax. It was there he met his lovely wife Rose.
After college he sold phone directory advertising
for several years before embarking on a 22-year
career of selling math & science text books, and
7 years selling industrial packaging equipment.
Retiring at 65, he returned to work at Quad City
Bank for 15 years.

Married for over 62 years, and Rose have been
back to Ireland twice, visiting the homesteads
where both his parents were born. His father, John
(J.P.), was from Kilkenny – County Kerry, and his
mother, Della, from Loughrea – County Galway.
His parents met and married in Chicago where
each had settled after coming to America thru
Ellis Island. His father, a railroad man, transferred to
Davenport with the DRI line.

Active in the community, Kevin and Rose delivered
food baskets for St. Anthony’s at Thanksgiving,
Christmas, and Easter. He will visit hospitals, nursing
homes, and schools with his trademark Irish charm
and leprechaun suit (made by Rose) to bring
cheer and candy on St. Patrick’s Day.
He enjoys his retirement with golf three times a
week, in good weather, and plays euchre with fellow
Ambrosians on a regular basis. When he’s not
doing that, he’s at home
